Miley Cyrus releases that classic John Lennon Chrissy song

The last time Miley Cyrus tackled anything Beatles- or John Lennon-related was when she featured on The Flaming Lips very excellent covers album of The Fab Four’s Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band. Check out the clip for Miley singing Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds and you’ll realise the gal’s crossover talent is so far vastly underrated (ie: we love).
Now Miley’s taken on the big one: covering John Lennon’s (Happy Xmas) War Is Over (you know the one). Once again, she’s gotten by with a little help from her friends, namely producer excellente Mark Ronson and John Lennon’s own son, Sean Ono Lennon on music support and backing vocals.
It’s a recipe for perfection – and while the new version of War Is Over is just as simple in structure and beautiful in melody as the original take (first released by Lennon in 1971; then again after his death in 1980), there’s something even more pertinent in its message.
We can all agree it’s been a pretty shitty year, with politicians behaving badly and natural disasters seeming non-stop the globe over. A cover song such as this is just what we need to get back some of those positive Christmas-y feels.
