A cooler blend of culture

Olivia Newton-John is doing fine, thank you very much

What happens is, newspapers and internet journos are kind of stuck for content in the first few days of a new year. Not that news isn’t happening in the world, just that everyone’s on holidays so it’s harder to get a hold of the real stuff. And so the media makes up a lot of crap, or at least exaggerates stuff it hears on the grapevine. Which is why you heard yesterday that Olivia Newton-John was days away from dying, and today that she’s actually feeling fine, with plenty of life still in her.

Yes, ONJ has had ongoing cancer troubles since 1992, and, yes, doctors did find in September last year that she had a tumor at the base of her spine, but our ONJ is one tough gal and she’s certainly not seeing this as a death sentence.

Tabloid outlets may have tried to circulate reports that her that Olivia’s “bodily functions [appeared] to be shutting down” and that she was “clinging to life” but her niece Tottie Goldsmith says it’s just “a sick rumour” going so far as to post a recent photo on Insta of herself and Aunty Livvy “in good health”.

Even this week, Livvy confronted the reports herself, posting a video on her Facebook page in which she says, with a bit of a laugh, that reports of her imminent death have been “greatly exaggerated”.

“I’m doing great,” the 70-year-old star goes on to say. “I want to wish all of you the happiest, healthiest 2019 possible. Thank you all for your wonderful love and support for me and my Olivia Newton John Wellness Center in Melbourne. Happy new year.”

So there you have it. No need to cue Hopelessy Devoted To You just yet.  Antonino Tati
