It’s not enough that we saw hot cross buns appear on supermarket shelves just two days after Christmas. No, Woolworths have to go one better and release hot cross bun ice cream a couple of days into the new year.
According to Woolworths head baker Ben Thompson, the limited edition ice cream is packed with “juicy raisins and [has] a smooth hot cross bun flavour ripple”.
While most would assume warm buns are more food fare for wintry weather, Thompson begs to differ, telling one WA media outlet, “It’s perfect for summer, perfect for sharing, and is a perfect accompaniment when enjoyed with any of our traditional hot cross buns.”
Fun fact: More than 72 million hot cross buns were sold by Woolworths last year, 10 million of these whipped off shelves in January alone.
And that’s big biccies. Well, buns.
