A cool blend of contemporary & retro culture

‘St Elmo’s Fire’ is being turned into a TV series set in the here and now

Fans of 1980s feelgood movies might be happy to learn that St Elmo’s Fire is being rebooted as a television series by NBC America.

The series will be a modern adaptation of the movie, set in the here and now and featuring the ups and downs of a group of friends struggling with career, relationships and the responsibilities of adulthood.

The original St Elmo’s Fire was released in cinemas in 1985 and starred Judd Nelson, Rob Lowe, Demi Moore, Emilio Estévez, Ally Sheedy, and Andrew McCarthy. It was directed by Joel Schumacher, who later went on to make The Lost Boys and Flatliners.

Speaking of which, The Lost Boys is also being turned into a TV reboot, courtesy of the creators of Veronica Mars.

Ah, television producers… such an imaginative lot, eh?
