Beyoncé to release a new ‘visual’ album inspired by ‘The Gift’ and ‘The Lion King’

Beyoncé has announced she will be releasing a new ‘visual’ album called Black Is King, which is set to premiere on Disney+ July 31st.

The artist said that the documentary film of sorts will be based on her 2019 album The Gift, though it also cunningly arrives at the one-year anniversary of Disney’s live-action film The Lion King.

“This visual album from Beyoncé reimagines the lessons of The Lion King for today’s young kings and queens in search of their own crowns,” said Disney of Black Is King. “The film was in production for one year with a cast and crew that represent diversity and connectivity.

Beyoncé wrote, directed and executively produced the album, which will feature music clips of songs from ‘The Gift’ including ‘My Power’ and ‘Brown Skin Girl’ as well as appearances from guest artists.

The voyages of Black families, throughout time, are honored in a tale about a young king’s transcendent journey through betrayal, love and self-identity,” Disney added. “His ancestors help guide him toward his destiny, and with his father’s teachings and guidance from his childhood love, he earns the virtues needed to reclaim his home and throne.”

Beyoncé today shared a minute-long teaser for Black Is Power on her official website.
