A cool blend of contemporary & retro culture

Oz Comic-Con announces its first live event for 2021… so you can shut down Zoom for a bit

Over the past year of lockdowns and isolation rules, plenty of live events have been cancelled, from rock concerts to fringe festivals. Also on the cancel list were comic conventions, with Supanova already been given a miss, and a host of other conventions forced to go virtual.

But Zooming in on your favourite comic book character is about as exciting as, well, simply reading a comic book.

It is with great excitement, then, that the team behind Oz Comic-Con announce the launch of their first live event of 2021.

Oz Comic-Con Pop-Up is a community-based event showcasing the local pop-culture scene and is set to hit Sydney Showground on March 6th and 7th. With strict social distancing rules in place, cosplay fans can rest assured that masks will have double purposes this time around.

Although things will seem a little different this time around, OCC Pop-Up will be jam-packed with a full schedule of workshops, activities, and feature guest from the worlds of comics, graphic novellas, gaming, film and television.

There’ll be the usual industry talks and panels, as well as exclusive merchandise that can’t be found anywhere else.

Highlights include ‘Creators Live’ – an area dedicated to promoting Australian digital content creators such as YouTubers, streamers, podcasters, bloggers, and social influencers, and ‘Cosplay Active’ – a cosplay competition for mainstream competitors that find themselves a step above the parade but not quite ready for the championships. And even your pets can get involved, with the finalists of the OCC Pet Cosplay being invited to attend the Con.

Assuming international borders are going to be down, there should be some special guests announced soon, but in the meantime tickets can be purchased at ozcomiccon.com.
