Birdsville’s Big Red Bash is back for 2021

The Birdsville Big Red Bash is one of the most remote music festivals in the world – located on the edge of the Simpson Desert against a backdrop of rolling red sand dunes and with music spanning the best of Australian artistry.

After a sudden cancellation last year – due to you know what – event organisers promise it’s all go for 2021.

In case you’ve had, well, you’re head in the sand, I’ve got to say there’s nothing quite like the Birdsville experience. The desert is the world’s largest parallel sand dune location – with dunes reaching as high as 40 metres! Covering an area of more than 176,000 square kilometres, that’s larger than the size of Belgium.

This year’s Big Red Bash features a roll call that is absolutely massive, with performers to include Paul Kelly, Tim Finn, John Williamson, Kate Ceberano, Ian Moss, Shannon Noll, Dragon, The Radiators, Mi-Sex, Wendy Matthews, Thirsty Merc, Marc Gable, Glenn Shorrock and and more.

It all takes place on the weekend of July 6-8, 2021, so start making plans now.

Whether it’s Paul Kelly singing To Her Door, John Williamson crooning True Blue or Wendy Matthews breaking our hearts all over again with The Day You Went Away, festivalgoers can expect a classic playlist of Aussie anthems performed live in one of the world’s most unique and quintessential landscapes.

“We are so grateful that both our patrons and the artists are backing us again this year,” said Big Red Bash Founder and Organiser, Greg Donovan.

“Eighty-five per cent of our patrons opted to retain their tickets from the sold-out 2020 event, and the tickets that were refunded sold out again in under five minutes such is the demand for the event.  And every single one of the 20 artists who were booked to perform in 2020 will be at the 2021 event.”

The 10,000-capacity event will be staged on a massive 1.3 million metre-square open-air site – enabling the festival to easily accommodate Covid-safe rules.
