A cool blend of contemporary & retro culture

The Wizard of Oz and Charlie and The Chocolate Factory to colour up the Crown stage

Two of our favourite childhood stories are being brought to life on the Crown Theatre stage, and we are clicking our heels in anticipation for them.

Roald Dahl’s beloved Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will open at Crown on November 3, followed by L. Frank Baum’s The Wizard of Oz which will open on New Year’s Eve.

Both stories have delighted audiences, young and old, all over the world for decades, and these two productions are sure to keep fans satisfied.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is the perfect recipe for a delectable treat: songs from the original film including Pure Imagination, The Candy Man and I’ve Got a Golden Ticket will feature alongside a toe-tapping score from the songwriters of Hairspray.

Stephen Anderson will star as Willy Wonka, Robert Grubb as Grandpa Joe and Lucy Maunder as Mrs Bucket.  The role of Charlie will be shared by four up and coming young performers.

As for The Wizard of Oz, what is there left to reveal about this famous story? Just that the cast will feature Amy McCann as Dorothy, Vincent Hooper as Lion, Bella McSporran as Scarecrow and Ethan Churchill as Tin Man.  Joining them on stage will be renowned music theatre star, Rachael Beck as the Good Witch and Lucy Williamson as the Wicked Witch of the West (ironic since Lucy last wowed audiences in her role as Judy Garland in The Boy from Oz!).

Tickets to both shows can be purchased through www.ticketmaster.com.au.
