Star cricketer Shane Warne has died, aged 52.
Warne is suspected to have died by a heart attack.
Warne, nicknamed ‘Warnie’ by millions, was considered one of cricket’s greatest players, most famous for his impressive leg-spinner work.
A statement was sent out from Warne’s management late Friday night (AWST), saying Warne had a heart attack and passed away in Koh Samui, Thailand.
“Shane was found unresponsive in his villa and despite the best efforts of medical staff, he could not be revived,” read the statement.
Warne died within 24 hours of the passing of fellow legendary cricketer, W.A.-born Rod Marsh.
Warne, born in Upper Ferntree Gully, Victoria, regularly made the back pages in newspapers for his regular wins and record-breaking on the pitch.
Once having been partner of English actress, Elizabeth Hurley, his fame was hurled quickly toward the front pages.
Warne and Hurley were a couple for three years, engaged for two, before having gone their separate ways in 2013, remaining friends thereafter.
A statement was sent out from Warne’s management late Friday night (AWST), saying Warne had a heart attack and passed away in Koh Samui, Thailand.
Continues the statement: “The family requests privacy at this time and will provide further details in due course.”
Condolences go out to the Warne family and loved ones.
