It’s IDAHOBIT Day… so what’s all this about then?
In so far as acronyms ago, IDAHOBIT is a bit of a tricky one, but it’s an important name that you ought to get used to because it encompasses a diverse range of people for whom today is rather special.
International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia & Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) celebrates LGBTQIA+ people globally, to help raise awareness for the work still needed to combat discrimination. And that’s discrimination in the workplace, in schools, and just as importantly in social situations.
There are so many ways you can get involved, be it by simply wearing a rainbow pin to work, or hosting an event that helps bring LGBTQIA+ issues to the fore.
Online, you could host a rainbow digital trivia night, online rainbow crafternoon, digital drinks, or even live-stream a group workout.
At home, you can bring family and friends together by hosting a rainbow dinner party, afterwork drinks, a rainbow picnic, or LGBTQIA+ themed movie night. You could even fundraise by encouraging everyone to donate what they’d normally spend on a night out.
Donations are welcome at www.idahobit.org.au and will go to supporting LGBTQIA+ Australians.
