So far we’d had it good being able to share our Netflix account with a family member or friend. Of course the company was aware of our sneaky shenanigans; but left us to it in the name of good will.
Now, Netflix is about to introduce surcharges if you want to share your account with a trusted loved one – or loved ones, since you can add up to two additional users who don’t live in the same household.
Still, we reckon it’s a subscription worth keeping, especially when compared to the headache that can be one-way, old-school, ad-laden TV.
Countries so far subjected to the new rule are New Zealand, Canada, Portugal and Spain, with Australia soon to see the switch, too, I’m pretty sure.
Streaming sites look like taking the lead in the way we watch film and television now, so it makes sense that the current leader in the stream-TV market would want to see more income the more people tune in.
And most folks would agree that so long as the surcharge isn’t too hefty, you’d probably continue sharing with your BFF / Lover / Sister / Mum / Nan / or whomever is currently piggybacking on your account.
Currently in Australia, Netflix subscriptions start at $6.99 for a Basic Plan (with Ads) or $10.99 for no advert interruption.
Subscriptions worth every penny either way, especially when compared to the headache of watching one-way old-school TV.
