Cosplay takes centrestage at Supanova 2023

The weather was a little wet over the weekend but it was a perfect storm of cosplay, comic culture and celebrity guests at Supanova 2023, held at its usual haunt, the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Saturday’s affair was far more popular than Sunday which is odd considering a lot of the very special guests appeared on the latter day, including Charmed star Alyssa Milano.
Also on this year’s guest roll call were Tyler Hoechlin (Superman & Lois and Teen Wolf), Elizabeth Tulloch (Superman & Lois and Grimm), Michelle Gomez (Doctor Who and Doom Patrol), Steven Bauer (Better Call Saul), and Supanova staple veteran John Jarrat (he of Wolf Creek fame).
Events ranged from anime screenings and cosplay workshops to celebrity Q&A panels, and photo/autograph signings. Not to mention plenty of gaming and endless shopping available, with stall after stall selling all manner of paraphernalia.
The highlight of Supanova, we’ve got to agree, is cosplay. Everywhere you turned, costume aficionados exhibited their love for a particular comic, gaming, TV or film character, dressing to the nines and looking 10 out of 10.
The craftmanship and attention to detail were breathtaking and impressive, especially considering most of it came from makers outside of the official fashion and costuming industries.
Enjoy our gallery of cosplay looks (including a rather spooky Edward Scissorhands who looked a lot like Elon Musk) and we’ll catch you at Supanova next year, same time, same Bat-Channel.
