So what’s all the fuss about this treatment called Emface? It’s very much a no-fuss procedure, actually

As we mature more, we become more aware of the importance of a holistic approach to health and wellbeing. Part of that approach is keeping up positive appearances. Whether we admit it or not, looking good makes us feel good, and feeling good helps us to live a better life. It’s kind of cyclic. And, no, it’s not an ethos driven by aesthetics alone. Psychological and behavioural research has found that looking good can positively influence how we feel, and this in turn promotes healthier behaviours and an overall improved quality of life.
There is a notion known as ‘self-perception theory’ which suggests that how we present ourselves can influence how we feel internally. In short, when people feel they look good (through dressing up, putting on makeup, sticking to fitness regimes), this often boosts self-esteem and mood.
Some people go to extreme measures to look good – surgery, injections, liposuction, etcetera. Others prefer less invasive techniques to keep up a positive appearance. I like to see myself falling into the latter category. In fact I’ve never had a surgeon’s knife anywhere near me.
So it didn’t take much to convince me that a relatively new technique in aesthetic treatments Emface would help reverse the signs of facial aging and improve my skin’s overall appearance. Booking in four sessions of the treatment, with a highly reputed clinic Ocean Cosmetics in Perth, I first sat with the clinic’s director and chief cosmetic physician, Dr. Gina Messiha, who talked me through the procedure. And it wasn’t at all complicated to comprehend.
The Emface procedure is a non-invasive (ie: needle-free) facial treatment that uses synchronised radiofrequency (RF) and high-intensity facial electromagnetic stimulation to tone facial muscles and improve the skin’s appearance. Results are often compared to those of invasive (or minimally invasive) treatments such as Botox, dermal fillers or facelifts, but there is much less fuss and far less fear on the patient’s behalf. Indeed, I had no qualms about getting straight into the experience and, following the four weeks of treatment, I found that I looked better, felt better, and can certainly vouch for the Emface procedure.
My face muscles ultimately felt more toned, there was definitely a subtle reduction in wrinkles, and more ‘lift’ in the muscle and skin in my cheeks and under my chin.
How easy is the Emface procedure?
Your clinician will take ‘before’ photos for you so as you can compare these with the results, and the procedure can easily be fit into a 40-minute appointment (just 20 minutes for the procedure itself – perfect for busy lifestyles). The clinician ensures you are laying back comfortably, then wipes and cleans off any makeup or sunscreen residue that may be on the face. That said, it is suggested of course that you arrive to your appointment with a clean face, free from moisturisers, makeup, actives, or even toners. This frees up all the skin space for Emface to do its magic.
The clinician applies small pads to the areas where you’d like to see improvement – in my case this was beneath the eye, just above the cheeks, and beneath the chin. The pads are wired to the Emface machine which sends the radiofrequency waves and electromagnetic pulses to the padded areas. To me it felt like tiny massages occurring in these areas.
Occasionally, I’d sense a gentle warming of the skin, sometimes even a bit of tingling. It’s a similar feeling to a deep facial massage but a little electric, and I like that. Overall, the procedure was comfortable and most tolerable.

After the session, I did see some mild pinkness in the treated area, but this faded within half an hour. As it was suggested to keep out of the sun, I must say I did miss going for long walks of an afternoon but it didn’t stop me from lathering up in sunscreen and stepping out of the house on occasion. That said, if you’re a sporty type who loves the great outdoors, just be sure to book sessions in that don’t clash with important activity, matches, and so on.
There are so many benefits to trying the Emface procedure. It’s non-surgical and takes very little of your time. There’s no bruising, no worry about infection, and no injection-related anxiety. Emface showed positive results within my first two treatments, and excellent results after the four booked treatments. I’ve noted evidence of lifting beneath my chin, toning of the neck muscles, slight lifting of the cheeks, less darkness and puffiness beneath the eyes, and just general rejuvenation of the overall face.

I’ve also been told that Emface helps with promote an increase in the face’s natural collagen and elastin – all without the need for needles or fillers. And to further add benefit, I made the most of a fantastic little serum called Alastin which helps even more in the brightening of my skin’s complexion and keeping those wrinkles at bay. Alastin Restorative Skin Complex contains a blend of peptides to help restore collagen and elastin, while hydrating the skin and lending structural support.
++++++++
Feeling good about your appearance can be a great motivator for further healthier actions such as exercising regularly, eating a more nutritious diet, and avoiding harmful habits such as smoking or excessive drinking. Of course pairing a procedure such as Emface with these positive practices will also ensure you look good – and in turn feel good.
