THE NEW. RETRO. MODERN.

Hacks for your PC or Mac… and we mean of the good kind

Each week, Cream will be adding to its computer hat tricks. (See what we did there?). Here’s three to get you started in cleaning up your tech situation.

Keeping your PC or Mac away from prying eyes

To lock your computer in an instant, press the Windows key + L et voila – it locks. Unlocking it merely requires your password.

Find your Wi-Fi password in a snip!

If you forgot your Wi-Fi password, Windows makes it easy to retrieve. Go to Network and Sharing Centre and right-click on the Wi-Fi network connection icon > Wireless Properties. Under the Security tab, you should see a password box with dots in it. Just click the Show Characters box to see the password appear in plain text.

Lose the horizontal rectangle for a wallpaper: go square!

The next time you go to change your PC or Mac monitor’s wallpaper, go for a square image instead. The graphic leaves block colour space on the sides for all those fiddly files on your desktop. It makes it a little easier to spot what’s what!

Undo anywhere with this simple keyboard shortcut

You can undo just about any action in a Windows operating system. Pressing Ctrl + Z will undo anything you have just typed. Additionally, you can redo anything you undid by pressing Ctrl + Y.
