THE NEW RETRO-MODERN

Venture into fantastical worlds in the PlayStation Plus March line-up… plus info on the next-gen VR headset and new VR2 Sense controller

There’s an avalanche of news coming out of the PlayStation camp, so we’ve summed up what’s new to present to you.

First up, the PlayStation Plus March line-up is here to test gamers’ survival, racing and combat skills with three action-packed titles and a “bonus” game to add to the library.

Out today and through to March 4 are: Ark: Survival Evolved, Team Sonic Racing and Ghostrunner as well as “bonus” game Ghost of Tsushima: Legends.

Ark: Survival Evolved is set on a mysterious island on which you must quickly adapt to all that is hostile and thrown at you. You can harvest resources to craft items and build shelters, and use newly crafted equipment to kill, tame, even breed leviathan dinosaurs and other creatures that roam the land. And you’re not the only one stranded: team up with – or prey on – hundreds of other players. The game is available for PS4.

In Team Sonic Racing, Sonic switches sneakers for wheels in a competitive arcade-style racer. Face-off with friends in intense multiplayer racing and race together across glorious. You can pick across three distinct Sonic character types, then unlock game changing vehicle customisation options to suit your racing style. Also now available for PS4.

Ghostrunner for PS5 sees you equipped with a blade and battling your way up a megastructure tower city in an intense, fast-paced first-person adventure. Slice your enemies with a monomolecular katana, dodge bullets with your superhuman reflexes, and employ a variety of specialised techniques to prevail. One-hit, one-kill mechanics make combat fast and intense. Then, use your superior mobility and frequent checkpoints to engage in a fearless, never-ending dance with death.

And bonus of bonuses, for both PS4 and PS5 is the ultimate standalone, cooperative multiplayer experience inspired by Japanese folk tales and mythology. Choose from four unique classes – Samurai, Hunter, Ronin or Assassin – and invite friends or use online matchmaking to fight side-by-side as legends in four exciting game modes.

On the hardware front, for those delving into VR worlds, PlayStation Australia is excited to reveal the impressive new design of the next-generation VR headset, PlayStation VR2, together with an updated and final design image of the PlayStation VR2 Sense controller.

The new headset has a similar shape to the PS VR2 Sense controller, taking on a matching “orb” look so as to allow for a full 360-degree view as players enter virtual reality worlds. The PS VR2 headset is well aligned with the aesthetics of the PlayStation 5 family of products, delivering a headset that will not only become an attractive part of players’ living room decor but will also keep players fully immersed in the game world. On the functionality front, there’s a new lens adjustment dial, so users have an additional option to match the lens distance between their eyes to optimise their view. In addition, the design is slimmer with slight weight reduction, which is a boon!

Another treat for players are tiny PlayStation symbols on the front and back bands of the PS VR 2 headset to add a comfortable feel for players to enjoy.

There are plenty of exciting new features to look forward to in the PS VR2 system when it launches, including stunning visual fidelity in 4K HDR and state-of-art graphical rendering, enhanced tracking, new PlayStation VR2 Sense Technology features, and the new intuitive, PS VR2 Sense controller that creates an incredibly deep feeling of immersion.

Turn on, tune in, and immerse yourself into virtual splendor.
