Gemma Ward back on the runway

Perth supermodel Gemma Ward, otherwise known as “the girl who brought an otherworldly, almost alien-like, but beautiful aesthetic to the face of contemporary fashion” is finally back on the runway, after a half-decade hiatus.
The 26-year-old opened Prada’s Spring runway show in Milan last night, looking more like she’d stepped out of class in Sunday school in her navy blue coat and knee-high grey socks.
Ward decided to take a break from modelling in 2008 following the death of her boyfriend Heath Ledger, and went on to do a little acting having appeared in Aussie indie flick ‘The Black Balloon’ and Baz Luhrmann’s ‘The Great Gatsby’, as well as have a baby. She also appeared in the Perth Theatre Company’s play ‘The Ugly One’ in 2011, but something tells us the inspiration for the play’s name wasn’t her doing.
A former Nedlands student, Gemma was crowned WA Model of the Year at age 15-year-old and by 16 had already appeared on the cover of Vogue magazine, US. We couldn’t resist digging out an ol’ copy of Cream, too, for which she posed for the cover of our Hot Issue in 2008. Antonino Tati
