The Sydney Film Festival is soon to kick off and its program boasts a brilliant array of fashion-themed films for those inclined to being attracted to style.
Highlights include Westwood: Punk, Icon, Activist – a profile on gung-ho British designer Vivienne Westwood directed by homeless youth turned model Lorna Tucker. This documentary had its world premiere at Sundance 2018 and to great critical review. Remember, it was Westwood who took it on herself to style up punk and drag new-wave fashion into the mainstream.
Also on the must-see list is McQueen – a rags-to-riches story about British designer and enfant terrible Alexander McQueen. Like a dark, modern-day fairy tale, the film focuses on McQueen’s personal trajectory, hiccups along the way, and the last dark days towards his death by suicide at the age of 40.
