Leave it to Toni Collette to pick the darkest of television roles. The actress has just signed on to star in Unbelievable, a series that examines the true story of Marie, a teenager charged with lying about having been raped, and the two female detectives who investigate the case.
Collette will play one of the detectives, along with Merritt Wever (of Nurse Jackie and Walking Dead fame). Kaitlyn Dever (who featured in Justified) will play the protagonist who leads the Ds on.
Unbelievable is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning article An Unbelievable Story of Rape, and will stream on Netflix, adding to its extensive true crime category.
The series, with its dark subplots, adds to Collette’s chequered CV that includes horror films such as The Sixth Sense and Hereditary, and her amazing turn as a sufferer of multiple personality disorder in The United States of Tara. Lisa Andrews
