David Bowie’s first ever recording from 1963 up for auction

You never know what you might find in odd boxes or bins while you’re moving house.

A one-time member of David Bowie’s band The Konrads, drummer David Hadfield, discovered Bowie & Co’s earliest recording from 1963 “hidden in a bread bin” during a house move in the mid-1990s.

Hadfield kept his find a secret for decades, that is until the announcement this week of a David Bowie auction taking place in September in the UK, where the recording is expected to fetch at least £10,000 (AUD$17,500).

The song, a simple mod-beat track which was rejected when sent as a demo to Decca Records, features Bowie on lead vocals (very high-pitched vocals) and playing saxophone.

Other memorabilia up for auction in September include letters, photographs, promotional sketches, band booking forms, and even utility bills.
