Facebook shuts down accounts of far-right provocateurs Milo Yiannopoulos, Laura Loomer & Alex Jones
How do you shut an online bully down? Simple: cut him off from the platform he uses to taunt and troll on.
Facebook administration has permanently banned U.S. far-right provocateurs Milo Yiannopoulos and Laura Loomer, along with Infowars founder Alex Jones and white nationalist Paul Nehlen.
Facebook admin has told media it would begin by banning official accounts held by far-right users but that it would also take down any similar ‘supporter’ accounts.
The bans, which took place last night, follow a former announcement that Facebook wouldn’t allow representatives of separatism or white nationalism on its platform anymore.
While some of those names won’t mean anything to Australian internet users, Milo Yiannopoulos, you might recall, is the pro-Trump poster boy who likes to cause riots on college campuses and anywhere else he spouts his racist and sexist commentary.
Yiannopoulos had a tour planned for Australia recently, which has now been cancelled. The tour was cancelled just one week after it was personally approved by the immigration minister, David Coleman.
Coleman said Yiannopoulos’ regular rants were “appalling and foment hatred and division” and that he would not be allowed into the country.
