Australia Post and the Royal Australian Mint are releasing millions of freshly minted $1 coins from today and throughout most of October.
The big deal? Each features an iconic Australian object or place, with most of them stamped with the quirkiest of Aussie icons.
Some are iconic classics, such as the Boomerang, Kangaroo, Platypus, Outback, even a tribute to popular TV series Neighbours.
Others are camper than a row of tents. Think: Esky, Hills Hoist, Lamington, Iced Vovos, and of course Vegemite.
The way to get your hands on these coins is to make a purchase at any Australia Post store, where you’ll be given limited edition $1 coins in change.
For the bogans, there’s the Ute and of course a trusty pair of Thongs. And for myth-busters there’s the spooky Yowie.
The first six of 26 in total are available from today, with each of the 26 coins corresponding with a letter of the alphabet.
Sports get a decent look-in with C for Cricket, F for Footy, and S for Surf Life Saving among our stand-out outdoor pursuits.
The catch? The only way to get your hands on these coins is to make a purchase at any Australia Post store, where you’ll be given limited edition $1 coins in change.
New coins will be issued every Monday until October 21, when you’ll be able to hunt down the oddest inclusion in the lot: Z for Zooper Dooper, the icy-pole that takes up way too much space in our freezers.
