Her music is kooky, her lyrics are spooky, and she dyes her hair green more often than the Joker / occasionally blue like an Avatar character.
Who’d have thought such an alternative looking artist as Billie Eilish would be named ‘Hitmaker of the Year’ by entertainment industry bible, Variety?
The 17-year-old singer / songwriter – whose themes often trek over to the dark side (let’s see, there’s depression, suicide, murder, anxiety, mental illness… to name a handful) – will be honoured at the Hitmakers event to be held on December 7.
Eilish’s single ‘bad guy’ (lowercase initials apparently imperative) is the fifth most downloaded and consumed song of the year, streamed almost a billion times on Spotify alone.
Impressively, Eilish writes almost all of her own material, occasionally collaborating with her multi-instrumentalist brother and producer Finneas O’Connell, who is also featured on Variety’s Hitmakers list.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Billie Eilish’s full name is Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O’Connell. Yes, her parents were highly likely modern hippies.
