Time magazine names Greta Thunberg ‘Person of the Year’ for 2019
She rubs a whole lot of conservatives up the wrong way but it seems well-established periodical Time magazine is happy to go with eco-activist Greta Thunberg as their ‘Person of the Year’ for 2019.
The 16-year-old Swedish champion for climate change is the youngest recipient of the annual honour, and was selected from a shortlist that included (ironically) Donald Trump, Nancy Pelosi, the Trump impeachment whistleblower and pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong.
Now, if we could get a Disney film in production starring Thunberg alongside Bambi and the Lion King, and have Lizzo create the soundtrack – that would be magic.
Greta Thunberg first gained international attention when she wagged school to stand outside of Swedish Parliament and demand greater climate change action.
Subsequently, Thunberg got conservative folk into a tizz, including Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison who said responded to Greta’s commands in saying, “I don’t want our children to have anxieties about these issues.”
In August this year, Thunberg sailed across the Atlantic Ocean from the UK to New York on a zero-carbon vessel to attend the UN Climate Action Summit and urged US leaders to do more to solve the environmental crisis.
In the same issue, Time also named Lizzo as ‘Entertainer of the Year’, and Disney head honcho Bob Iger as ‘Businessperson of the Year’.
Now, if we could get a Disney film in production starring Thunberg alongside Bambi and the Lion King, and have Lizzo create the soundtrack – that would be magic.
