‘Jo-Jo Rabbit’ creator Taika Waititi to direct ‘Charlie & The Chocolate Factory’ animated series for Netflix

Netflix has announced that it is partnering with The Roald Dahl Story Company to deliver several series based on Dahl’s stories, including Matilda, The Twits and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

First off the rank is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, with New Zealand film director Taika Waititi locked in to direct an animated series inspired by the book and original film.

Waititi will also direct a separate series based on the Oompa-Loompa characters (talk about an interesting back story there!).

Waititi recently won an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay, for his recent cinematic success ‘Jo-Jo Rabbit’.

Said a Netflix representative: “The shows will retain the quintessential spirit and tone of the original story while building out the world and characters far beyond the pages of the Dahl book for the very first time.

“Finding just the right creative partner to bring Willy Wonka, Charlie and the Oompa-Loompas to life in animation was a daunting task… until Taika walked into the room.”

Netflix said it is working on expanding its animated feature titles. And we can’t picture a better series of books to do this with.
