The Big Garage Sale Trail is happening across the country again
No matter how much second-hand selling might be on the increase (thank you, eBay, Marketplace, et al), nothing beats a good old-fashioned garage sale. Indeed, the concept of selling from your own front- or backyard is still a phenomena in Australia that there is an annual event called the ‘Garage Sale Trail’.
Well it’s that time of the year again, and this weekend garages across the nation are being filled with stuff that punters no longer want, where trash becomes treasure to other souls.
A not-for-profit community and sustainability campaign, Garage Sale Trail encourages reuse of pre-loved items. The idea is simple – sales are held on the same day around Australia and the combined impact of keeping hundreds of thousands of items from landfill is extraordinary.
It’s free to get involved and registration is open to all residential homes, local businesses, schools, community groups, cultural institutions, charities and anyone who’s up for a day of fun (and a bit of moolah-making).
Whether you’re a potential seller who wants to spring-clean the home, or a buyer on the hunt for some retro bargains – or indeed, just want to get to know the neighbours as well as ‘do your bit’ for the environment – the Garage Sale Trail is for you.
Oh, and it’s ironic that the acronym for the Garage Sale Trail is GST, because guess what? You won’t have to pay any GST on any of the goods you sell! Lisa Andrews
The Garage Sale Trail takes place this Saturday 21 November and Sunday 22 November.
