Are you ready for the Queen ‘live’ experience in a video game?

Rock legends Queen have pretty much done it all. Had international success all over the world, selling records and touring – and that includes after the passing of their iconic frontman Freddie Mercury. They’ve had their legacy turned into musicals, seen their songs feature in famous films, even gotten themselves featured on a Monopoly board. Now comes the next territory: video gaming.

With live music in lockdown and the return of tours still uncertain, Queen has come up with a safe alternative – the band’s first ever official game for Android and iOS devices. No masks, no social distancing, just a good old fashioned ‘live’ experience, with ‘Queen: Rock Tour’ as a video game.

The play-along rhythm game comes at a significant landmark for Queen, with 50 years now having passed since the 1971 recruiting of John Deacon, completing Queen’s classic line-up.

2021 marks a Queen Golden Jubilee that the band was hoping to celebrate with fans in the form of a massive 29-date European stadium and arena tour planned for this year that has now been postponed to 2022. Here’s something to bide the time until then.

‘Queen: Rock Tour’ gives players a chance to experience the majesty and might of the Queen [live] experience on their phones supported by extensive attention to detail contributed by the official Queen archives and experts.

According to a media release, “players can “hit the stage and perform with the entire band as they unleash their music talents to play thrilling guitar riffs, heart-pounding drum solos and much more. All you need to do is tap the tiles in time with the rhythm.”

Included are a heap of hits to play along to such as Bohemian Rhapsody, We Will Rock You, Radio Ga Ga, I Want to Break Free and We Are The Champions, while settings include 10 historic concert venues from around the world.

Players can also style performances with over 40 official and iconic costumes from the band’s history, while helping unlock trivia facts and exclusive images from the official Queen archives, by scoring highly in the game.

So, you may not get to see the group live for another year, but at least you can carry them around in your pocket.
