A US priest who had been spreading conspiracy theories that Covid-19 was a plague sent from God has been hospitalised with, yes, a diagnosis of Covid-19.
Florida-famous pastor Rick Wiles regular touted during his sermons that God had sent the virus “to purge a lot of sin off this planet.”
But just a few weeks ago he himself ended up in hospital due to Covid-related pneumonia with bouts of difficult breathing. He even revealed this on the far-right dedicated website TruNews.com.
The evangelical pundit had gained a reputation as one of America’s top deniers of the coronavirus and has regularly used the TruNews.com website – which he founded himself – to spread hate-based conspiracy theories.
On the site, he published: “Thanks to Jesus Christ, I survived the CCP Covid genocide on the American people” – the CCP bit referring to the Chinese Communist Party.
At least four other family members developed Covid symptoms after Wiles was diagnosed with it.
Just four weeks prior to his diagnosis, Wiles had declared in an interview that he was not going to be vaccinated because he believed vaccines were part of a “mass death campaign”, adding that “a lot of stupid people will be killed off.”
