Which play by Shakespeare has been voted to be performed as part of Black Swan’s 30th anniversary season?

We can’t say the WA-loved Black Swan State Theatre Company ( BSSTC) doesn’t listen to what its audience wants. In fact, it gives audience members what we want, and then some.
In celebration of Black Swan’s 30th birthday this year, the company asked members which of Shakespeare’s plays (considering all 37 of them) would we love them to perform at the end of the 2021 Season – and in celebration of three decades of amazing productions.
Over 1,800 votes were cast, and the play that came out on top is The Tempest. And with all the passion and magic conjured by Prospero and co in this masterful tale, it’s the perfect play to get double-excited about (the first thing to get excited about is the Company’s anniversary, of course!).
This special presentation of The Tempest will be staged right back to where Black Swan started – in the Octagon Theatre on the grand grounds of UWA.

The play’s season will run from 20 November to 11 December, and this particular production will send audiences on a dream-like journey through a strangely familiar world. Sea shanties crash against Indian raags, on an island brimming with music, magic and
wonder.
The Tempest is being directed by award-winning Matt Edgerton, who describes it as “lyrical, mysterious, funny, filthy, violent,
delicate and wise.”
Now that ticks all the boxes in our criteria for an exciting production!
