Citadines Perth offers a ‘paw-fect’ option for pet-friendly staycations

There are times when you need to get away from house and home – if only to see and feel life from a different perspective; a desire to take a break from the same old domestic trappings. That’s when a staycation of sorts is called for – packing up for a two or three-day stay in town, away from the ‘burbs. Call it a mini holiday, if you will.
But what happens if you have a pet cat or dog and there is nobody free to look after it? Especially during the hectic holiday period when everyone else is making staycation plans of their own?
The solution is to find a suitable place of accommodation where pets are welcome.
Citadines in Perth is one such place, offering a ‘PAW-fect Package’ tailored especially to your pet, while also ensuring you’re well looked after.
Citadines St Georges Terrace now invites guests to bring their pets along to stay in their serviced apartments – where pets are virtually treated like royalty.
The hotel itself is comprised of 85 cleverly designed, generously-sized spaces ranging from studio-style suites to one- and two-bedroom apartments designed with both the business and leisure traveller in mind.
While a few of the rooms have picturesque vistas of The Esplanade, most have views of the bustling CBD below. We stayed in a Studio Executive Apartment.
At Citadines, each room is outfitted with comfort and practicality in mind, doing away with the unnecessary add-ons. But while the accommodation is non-fussy for humans, it’s ultra-fussy for pooches and moggies.

Upon arrival, your pet receives a goody-bag packed with treats and a plush toy. There’s water already poured into a bowl, and a food bowl with a biscuit snack already in it, along with a jar full of the cookies.
Your pet’s bed is big, too. Our Chihuahua/Jack Russell cross, Ringo, ran circles around his bed upon first seeing it. It’s like he knew this particular stay was all about him.

While the pet bed is a generous size, Ringo insisted on having his moved onto the chaise lounge, making him feel even more like royalty. He also had access to a big basket of toys.

In the bathroom, there are pee-mats, and doggy bags to take when going on outdoor walks, plus a lint/hair remover for when your pooch has gotten whispy bits over you or your bed.
That said, while Ringo usually joins us in bed at home – and taking up a good amount of space, I might add – here at the hotel, he was happy to stay in his own quarters.

During the day, though, Ringo was insistent on joining us on our city walks. We ventured to the Esplanade, the Botanic Gardens, and even through the busy streets of St Georges and Hay with Ringo on a leash – proud about his first outing in the big city.
If you want to take your pooch further out, Citadines is not far at all from Kings Park, where an endless array of new sights, smells and sounds await your pooch. Alternatively, you can take a drive to Whiteman Park which has a fully fenced dog park that allows dogs to stretch their legs off-lead.

Citadines is also close to scenic Swan River, the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, Perth Mint, Bell Tower, the Western Australian Museum, the Art Gallery of WA, and Yagan Square.
Of course, the hotel is also nearby nightlife but you wouldn’t know it with its well soundproofed windows.
While the hotel doesn’t have extensive amenities such as in-house gym or restaurant, it is close to countless city gyms and plenty of restaurants and bars.
There’s 24-hour reception, a business corner, conference room and complimentary Wi-Fi to keep you in the loop.
I’d suggest Citadines, St George’s Terrace any day for a staycation with your beloved four-legged friend. After a two-day stay, I felt invigorated, and glad I got to take my fur-baby out on the town.
