There’s nothing like a set of comic relief to lighten the burden of Covid-filled angst, especially when the jokes are firing fast and on point. Funny is what we need right now, and the Crushers Comedy Gala indeed crushes it, leaving my mouth aching from non-stop laughing.
With a different MC each night to suitably warm up the audience for a strong lineup of local and international comics, all of the acts do indeed crush it, and admitted to be happily stuck residing in WA or Australia.
British comedienne Nicky Wilkinson, funny, sweet and light-humoured, has become a fave and a happily adopted Aussie. New Zealand comic sensation, the charming James Nokise, and hilarious Aussie veteran Jacques Barrett both smashed it. You might also catch these comic legends at the Comedy Lounge in Murray Street.
Interestingly, each comic had more in common than just their Oz address, with topics often overlapping: Covid lockdowns… living in challenging socio-economic suburbs – think bogans in Midland – and by that, I mean the comics themselves! Stole that joke, LOL.
Staged at the Arts Hub: Rechabite, Crushers Comedy Gala is a perfect pit stop for a pre- or post-show drink and convenient bite to eat at its popular restaurant. Fast-paced, high-energy comedy is the Fringe remedy the doctor ordered.
‘Crushers Comedy Gala’ runs until February 13, 2022. Tickets and information at http://www.fringeworld.com.au.
