Nick Cave’s son Jethro Lazenby has died, aged 31; he is the second of Cave’s children to have died in tragic circumstances in the past seven years
Singer Nick Cave announced this morning that his 31-year-old son, Jethro Lazenby, has died.
In a statement to press, Cave wrote: “With much sadness, I can confirm that my son, Jethro, has passed away. We would be grateful for family privacy at this time.”
The tragic news comes seven years after the death of another of Cave’s sons, Arthur, who fell from a cliff to his death in 2015. An inquest found that Arthur had taken LSD before the fall.
The cause of Lazenby’s death has not been revealed.
Lazenby had only been released from jail last Thursday, where he had served time after being found guilty of assaulting his mother in March this year. His lawyer told the court that Lazenby had suffered from schizophrenia, which affected his judgement.
Cave has said in the past: “To my eternal regret, I didn’t make much contact with Jethro in the early years.”
Lazenby had done a little modelling and acting throughout his career, having appeared in 2007’s Corroboree and 2011’s My Little Princess.
Nick Cave has two other children, Earl Cave (21), and Luke Cave (31).
