A cool blend of contemporary & retro culture

A Tribute to ‘Mad’ illustrator, Al Jaffee

Allan Jaffee (aka: Al) was an American cartoonist, most famous for his work with Mad magazine. Al died this week, on Wednesday the 10th April at the grand old age of 102.

Al made millions of people laugh, generation after generation, and could “cartoon anything” according to ‘Peanuts’ creator, Charles Schulz.

Aside from illustrating a good chunk of images for Mad, Al was responsible for coming up with the Mad “fold-in” which gave kids seconds of side-splitting laughter (often lewd in the final image).

Al Jaffee was born March 13, 1921, in Savannah, Georgia, to Mildred and Morris Jaffee, the eldest of four children, all sons. His parents were Jewish immigrants from Lithuania.

Al’s wife Joyce died just three years ago, in January 2020.

He leaves behind a gigantic catalogue of excellent and always funny illustrative work.
