FINDING THE RIGHT MUSIC TO DANCE TO

Found Objects is a Cream magazine remixing project that blends the worlds of dance music and art. Cream founding editor and audio artist Antonino Tati trawls the web to find the coolest of backing tracks, campest of documentaries, fun film quotes, and maddest retro ads - layering words of wit (and occasional dimwittedness) over killer remixes. The aural Easter eggs abound on these recordings. Volume One (pictured above) includes remixes of songs by Kylie, Madonna, Darren Hayes, Suede, Eurythmics, Thomas Dolby, George Michael, and Pet Shop Boys, while Volume Two (below) includes brilliant reworkings of gems by Kate Bush, Soulwax, Tori Amos, Les Rythmes Digitales, The Motels, Fleetwood Mac, Malcolm McLaren, R.E.M. and David Bowie. Recently, I included Adam Lambert in an anthology of interviews with culture icons - music artists I've chatted with whom I believe are leaving a positive cultural impact on various generations: in Adam's case, Gens X, Y and Z (and occasionally your Nan - when there's no dirty words in the songs!). Adam's new single Under The Rhythm is sure to solidify this status - it's that good a groove. ↑ FUN FACT: Whenever Andy Warhol would finish one of his portraits, he'd add a little 'realism' to the stencilled work by dotting the eyes with white paint so that they looked like set lights were reflecting from the subject's pupils. Debbie Harry (above, and detail, below) is the only subject whose 'dots' he purposely shaped into little love hearts. Cute, hey?

What starts off sounding like the intro to Foreigner's 'Waiting For A Girl Like You' soon enough shifts into a trance-like dance track with shades of Donna Summer's 'I Feel Love' throughout. If you're still using classic incandescent light bulbs, when you move from room to room, try to switch the light off in the room you are leaving (assuming others aren't in there). This is not only good stretching exercise but is saving energy. Careful though - if fluorescent or halogen lights are being switched on and off, that actually uses up more energy. So just your typical incandescent bulbs.
