Pop singer Demi Lovato thought to have overdosed on heroin; now in a stable condition
Pop singer Demi Lovato was hospitalised yesterday morning after a drug overdose. Although the star or her representatives have refused to divulge to paramedics what drug she’d actually taken, friends say she had been taking heroin and crystal meth days and possibly even the night prior to the incident.
A spokesperson at the Los Angeles Fire Department said a call came from a Hollywood Hills residence where Lovato lives at 11.22am, asking for emergency assistance. Police were also notified and dispatched.
Upon arrival at the 25-year-old singer’s home, attendants used naloxone – a drug that counteracts the effects of heroin or, indeed, opioids in general.
Over the past year, Lovato has been very verbal about her struggles with eating disorders, bipolar disorder, excessive alcohol intake, and cocaine addiction. Last year, some of these problems were highlighted in a TV documentary, Simply Complicated.
Lovato’s management has not responded to media about her current situation, but hospital spokespeople say she is in a stable condition.
