Reasons we love the new Fuji Instax Mini 12 better than its predecessors
I have a lot of memories growing up – many of them thanks to a trusty Polaroid camera. It was as instant as photography came at the time; press click on the box-y camera’s shutter release et voila your party photo perfectly framed and ready to stick on the fridge.
In today’s age, of course, photographer is even more instant with social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and TikTok seeing users post new pics by the millisecond.
But sometimes it takes more than a digital picture to satisfy our desire for posterity. Somehow, a sturdy physical photo appears more legit than doctored or filtered social media snaps. And that’s where the new Fujifilm Instax Mini 12 comes in handy.
Take it with you to the next club outing, music festival or family soiree to take long-lasting images. The Instax Mini 12 captures images more brightly than its predecessor the previous Instax we test-drove: the SQ1 Camera. In fact the size and shape of the finished photo is different, too, with a vertical (or horizontal) layout replacing the traditional square one.
You also get the option of final images with decorative borders such as the love heart sketch border, pictured.
Instax Mini 12 is perfect for that close-up and lets you take better selfies than its predecessors. Use the selfie mirror to line up your shot and let the flash adjust automatically, even in closeup mode. The trick with the perfect shot is to get the lighting right. If you don’t have a professional ring light, at least have your subject standing under the main light in the room, or if you happen to be outside, make sure the sun is behind the photographer and landing on the subject.
This camera looks great, is lightweight, and is ideal for distance of up to half a metre. Beyond that and things start to get a little fuzzy so keep it nice and close. When you set the close-up mode to On, the subjects in print will be right in the centre.
Available in an array of colours – Pastel Blue, Mint Green, Blossom Pink, Lilac Purple and Classic White, its the cutest conversation piece to brighten up any event!
