Kylie to reissue excellent album ‘X’ for the first time on vinyl, other LPs to follow suit, and yay

Kylie Minogue’s X — that sleek, slightly chaotic 2007 fever dream of an album — lands on black vinyl this August 7, its first time on vinyl and ensuring the album’s high-gloss electro-pop is getting the tactile afterlife it always deserved.

From side A’s opening throb of 2 Hearts (another of Kylie’s natural signature themes here) to the narcotic glide of Like A Drug and the club-kid elasticity of In My Arms, X plays like a time capsule of late-’00s hedonism — equal parts futurism and flirtation.

Flip it, and you’re rewarded with the stuck-on-a-digi-chord whip of Wow, the cheeky provocation of Nu-di-ty (thank you), and the cosmic exhale of, well, the aptly titled Cosmic – a closer that still feels like drifting out of a a fash-chic orbit.

This isn’t just a reissue; it’s a reminder. Kylie doesn’t chase trends — she absorbs them, refracts them, and sends them back shinier. On vinyl, ‘X’ isn’t nostalgia. Groove by groove, it’s club resurrection. Or living room resurrection, which is usually where my little disco fits happen these days.

Marked by a brand of generation that is just as tough and loyal as this music queen has been prolific and resilient throughout the decades, X is a record that’s worthy of it’s reprint. Yes, every man and his doggone crazy record company is re-releasing stacks of albums on vinyl again – which we love – but this is Kylie, people, and you know the songs grow on you with every listen. That said, it wold be nice if future reissues had some celebratory alternative mixes on them. Just sayin’.

Kylie’s good record company peeps at Mushroom are also reissuing spiffy-upped versions of Light Years – as a 2LP set; Aphrodite – getting a highly requested wide reissue on black vinyl; as well Kiss Me Once as a standalone release.

Now I’m going to have to start shuffling the Ms around again in the vinyl collection to make sure I have good room for these babies.
