Unless you’ve had your head in the sand, or in the clouds as the case may be, you’d know of the phenomenal expo that is Supanova.
Bringing together stars and fans of gaming, cult TV, comic book culture and more, Supanova was established in Sydney in 2000 as a home-grown Comic Con of sorts, and now hosts great big gigs in both Sydney and Perth.
After months of planning Supanova 2019 (or Supanova Comic Con & Gaming to give the event its full name), the first lot of special guests can finally be revealed, with the following celebs booked in to attend the June events in both cities.
Pop culture mainstay and all-round legend Stephen Amell (above) has been confirmed, the actor known for portraying Oliver Queen / Green Arrow in superhero series Arrow.
Stephen will be bringing his cousin Robbie Amell (below), along for the ride. Robbie, of course, has had feature roles in various series including Tomorrow People, Scooby-Doo (as Fred), and as Ronnie Raymond/Firestorm in The Flash (part of the Arrowverse, too).
The modern Arrowverse might not exist without the Superman series Smallville, and fans across Sydney and Perth will have the opportunity to see Clark Kent and Lex Luthor face off once again with the addition of Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum, who are also known for their roles on Lucifer and Impastor, respectively.
Also dashing into town will be Lindsey Morgan (The 100), and Italia Ricci, who rose to pop culture fame in recent years as Siobhan Smythe/Silver Banshee from Supergirl, before starring in Designated Survivor.
Supanova guests will be meeting and greeting fans, giving behind-the-scenes talks, posing for portraits, signing autographs and more. And the price for a handshake and selfie ain’t half-bad.
Animation fans will be able to catch Dan Green (Yu-Gi-Oh!, Sonic X), Eric Stuart (Yu-Gi-Oh!, Pokémon), and Shannon McCormick (Red vs Blue), while Amanda Bridgeman (The Subjugate, The Aurora series) is the first author confirmed.
Supanova guests will be meeting and greeting fans, giving behind-the-scenes talks, posing for portraits and signing autographs, with the price for a handshake and selfie not too high (these will be revealed in the official program to be released later in the year). Plus there’ll be plenty of previews and screenings, gaming demonstrations, competitions, and the opportunity to shop for must-have items including comics, DVDs and Blu-rays, figurines, accessories and clothing.
What’s not to get supa-excited about?
Supanova Comic Con & Gaming is on in Sydney (21–23 June) and Perth (28-30 June) later this year.
General admission tickets for the Sydney and Perth events go on sale this Thursday, January 24, at 10am local time, respectively. Visit www.supanova.com.au.
