Kim Kardashian caves in to pressure to change the name of her ‘Kimono’ shapewear line

After facing criticism from fans and foe alike – not to mention receiving a request from the Mayor of Kyoto to stop disrespecting Japanese culture – Kim Kardashian has decided to rename her ‘Kimono’ brand of solutionwear / shapewear to something else (she is still in board meetings and – given her daftness – this could take weeks).
In Japan, the kimono is considered the national dress, worn for important events such as weddings and funerals. Kardashian’s “shapewear”, on the other hand, is basically a gut-squashing girdle made of polyester fabrics.
“My brands and products are built with inclusivity and diversity at their core and after careful thought and consideration, I will be launching my Solutionwear brand under a new name,” the reality star wrote in a tweet yesterday.
The announcement came just days after Kim tried to promote her line of body-shaping stockings under the brand name ‘Kimono’. But the internet soon started seeing #KimOhNo going viral after one clever cultural enthusiast, Sono Fukunishi, posted a petition for folks to sign, requesting that Kim stop trashing Japanese culture (133,640 signatures at time of writing).

Another enthusiast, Yuka Ohishi, tweeted the statement: “Our traditional garment is not spandex. It is not a beach cover-up. It is not something you should use to make a cute pun with your name and slap on a trademark.”
