Red Bull gives you zings: two zesty new flavours to add punch to Friday night drinks

Red Bull’s latest flavour drops are all about the zest factor: one somewhat florally but packing punch – the Cherry Sakura release (pictured above); the other sharp and zestier – the Summer Edition Sudachi Lime (pictured below).

To my palate, the Sugarfree Cherry Sakura is the more delicious of the pair, blending a zingy cherry sweetness with a delicate, almost perfumed finish. It’s actually quite subtle by energy drink standards – less sugar hit, more healthy fruit.

The Summer Edition Sudachi Lime, meanwhile, is all brightness: crisp citrus with a slightly bitter edge that cuts through the usual Red Bull base, landing closer to a sparkling lime soda.

Which brings me to the next subject, can these beauties be used as an ingredient in cocktails. The short answer, absolutely!

The Cherry Sakura pairs beautifully with vodka or a good, quality sake. Keep it clean and natural by adding fresh lime or maybe a dash of elderflower, if you can get hold of some, for a floral lift. Maybe, just maybe, a couple of fresh cherries on a stem (not all those ingredients at once, of course).

The Sudachi Lime begs for tequila or gin; think a quick highball with ice in a salted rim glass and a sprig of fresh mint.

Both flavours lend themselves to easy, no-fuss mixing. Just keep the other ingredients to a minimum because you don’t want to overcomplicate what already works. And these two truly work. Perfect for Friday night afterwork bevvies, then.
